More playing with fabric

I've managed to figure out how to get back into my blog! This is an accomplishment in itself.

I played with soy wax last night with variable success. But perhaps I have learned a few things that I can apply the next time I play with wax. For this piece I used a stencil and applied the hot soy wax with a brush. Then I brushed paint over the fabric. As you can see, some of the paint leached in under the wax which was layered on the top of the fabric. Here is a picture of my most successful piece.
Spring Postcards

And then I have been trying to create some fiber postcards with a spring feel to them. Since I am not really a spring person it is a challenge to me to work in the pastels and even the brights that spring evokes. These are a couple of my efforts.

Trying New Things

This is a new technique that I have been playing with. I lay dyed wool roving down on batting and cover it with water soluble stabilizer. Then I thread paint over the whole thing before dissolving the stabilizer. The effect is rather nice, but I think I need to do some more playing before it is perfected.

I sympathise - I'm not really a spring person either, but I do like postcards and I have an idea for the spring theme swap - hopefully, it will work. It's very simple, but that's no guarantee. Anyway, I like your spring cards, especially the one with the "stained glass" effect.

I've been doing something similar to this using clipped yarn arranged in a design covered with tulle, basting and then embroidering. Check out my blog and etsy. How long have you been doing this and how did you come up with the idea? Just curious because it is so much like what I'm doing. Great minds...? Sally
